Under current COVID-19 safe working guidance, employees are being encouraged by the Government to stay away from their office and work from home, if they can. So, many a study or back-bedroom around the country is now in need of a replacement carpet through all of this extra wear and tear. If your employer is not reimbursing you, this presents a new opportunity to claim tax relief for additional household costs, if you have to work at home on a regular or ad-hoc basis, so long as it is required by your employer for at least a single occasion throughout the 2020-21 tax year. Such additional household costs include: Heating Water Home contents insurance Business telephone calls To make the claim with HM Revenue & Customs, you can either claim for actual costs or claim a standard £6 per week flat rate instead. You may also be able to claim tax relief on work related equipment you've bought, such as a laptop, chair or mobile phone.
